"THE COWBOY, a 10-year rural ‘Boyhood’, between rodeos and caravans, horses and bulls, dreams as big as America, (and) then as elusive as the dust of the earth…"
(Valentina Grignoli - laRegione)
The Cowboy is a long-term observational documentary that follows Crowley McCuistion, a boy from rural Colorado, over the course of nearly ten years. When we first meet him, he’s eleven years old, proud to be part of a long line of cowboys. His future seems fixed: work hard, ride bulls, stay loyal to the land and family. But life intervenes. After the sudden death of his older brother and the collapse of his parents’ marriage, Crowley begins to feel the weight of a legacy he’s no longer sure he wants.
What unfolds is a deeply personal coming-of-age story set against the vast backdrop of the American West.
